# Description of theme
You can read the full curatorial statement here
An examination of the materiality of art (fabrics, textures, surfaces… materials), and the process of becoming art; art materializing into being. The theme was chosen to celebrate the materialization of FDG 10 years prior.

# Thoughts on the catalogue

As I was reviewing the designs for this post, I realized that although I primarily make art using traditional media, I neglected to take advantage of this in favour of vector graphics through my tenure with the FDG. The designer who took over after I left has been taking the visual language in a fantastic direction by incorporating more illustrative media, and I highly recommend you check it out.

If I were to revisit this particular design, I would embrace mixed media to make a stronger statement about celebrating the history of our gallery in connection with the theme Materialize. This collage would include past and present artwork, event photos, and sticky notes or magnets that nod to past vernissages. Imagine something like this. Perhaps it’s kitschy, but where else would a Fridge Door Gallery belong if not in the kitschen?

I share these thoughts with you to celebrate the learning curve I’ve gone through, and to illustrate how the creative process isn’t really over when the work itself is complete. I enjoy revisiting old projects with the hindsight of knowledge gained, and I have a particular fondness for this one, as it was my first vernissage theme.

# I also submitted artwork to the vernissage, in keeping with the theme Materialize:
