# Designing the Logo

My first task with the FDG was to redesign the logo in honour of our 10 year anniversary.

The original logo (pictured above) celebrated the love of art itself with paint splatters, but as you can see from the thumbnails below, I really really wanted to take advantage of the “Fridge Door” theme.

# Notes on the design:
One of my main focuses was scalability (to be recognizable from a small size). Looking back, I can see I was too focused on imagining its use as an icon, and failed to consider the ways I’d have to incorporate the logo into promotional images. In practice, the shape is rather corporate in contrast to the more organic art we promote as a gallery. Although I would have gone in a different direction today, I’m pleased with the creative constraints it offered, and the learning curve I went through to achieve the final design.
